I recently re-entered the world of smartphones, so I may be way behind, but I have a question. I have looked at some of the apps, like Target or coupons. Before you install them, there are permissions they tell you that you are approving.
I would be giving A LOT of them permission to track my phone calls and my contacts. Also, some of them say they will take pictures and videos with my phone without my knowledge. I noticed the same thing and have avoided downloading some apps even a simple solitaire app!
Has anyone ever had problems because you downloaded an app that requires you to give up so much information? I was thinking the same thing, especially about the first one that tracks where you are and gives you deals based on that. Just something creepy about that. I have a kindle fire and noticed that you have to look at the permissions on each and every app. Something as simple as tetris has a huge list of permissions you are agreeing to by downloading it.
I completely agree!! I cannot believe the amount of data these apps collect, on Facebook or the smartphone. I recently decided against Shopkick and Ibotta because the permissions required me to allow them to see if I was on an active call, how long the call was as well as who it was connected to.
Shopkick wanted that as well as permission to turn on my mic and camera whenever they wanted and record, whether you know it or not. They also wanted to be able to fully access all my contacts in my phone. Privacy is super important to me… I willingly participate in some marketing activities but on MY terms, not theirs.
I was disappointed to have to skip these apps, but I will never use them and would advise anyone else to do the same until they revise their terms. Thanks, Ladies. I have seen all of these apps, and then see all the info they take from you and personal info at that!
You missed Viggle!! My favorite. I normally earn points a day. You can earn up to a day and check into shows up to 12 hours a day. I normally just focus on the evening shows to get all of the bonuses. They also have starbucks, old navy, lowes, amazon, etc. I love this app.
I looked into it, but it seemed too complicated and time-consuming to me — and it also seemed like you had to have cable for most of the shows? I use Viggle with Hulu Plus. Plus, you can watch ads on the app to get points.
When you cash out for a rewards it is instant so there is no waiting. My favorite app that was not listed is Viggle. This app pays you to watch TV. Just check into your favorite shows by letting your phone listen to the TV. I just have a 4th generation i-touch and I am able to download all these apps. If a store has free wi-fi and a lot of them do I can use the app. I check gas buddy before I am out to get the best deal in town, or at the restaurant where we are out for lunch in a neighboring town.
My husband and I just have stupid phones. We have been considering purchasing smart phones. My guess is likely not. I did see another comment above saying you can get some of these things on a tablet, if you have one of those, and use with wifi. I think if you have the devices anyway, these are great options, but they are no reason to get a device.
Just my opinion. My experience is it will recover the cost difference and then some. We will be exchanging coupons, discussing good deals and I will be there to answer any questions. It's too frustrating to even browse on it. Rewards are useless I guess, unless you go into the store. I got so frustrated that I cancelled my order. I paid off my balance and will probably cancel the card as well. I work hard for my money and I am not going to wrestle an app to use rewards I earn when I use this card.
My last order I did pick up in store and was confirmed by email it was received and everything was in stock. I walked back and picked them off the rack myself. When I tried talking to the manager I was dismissed like A child. So all in all, I am not happy with old navy, their stores, their credit cards, or their app. The developer, Gap Inc.
